The Susan Trust is a registered charity which was established in 2005 to restore and maintain the Chelmer barge Susan on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation.  It is a partnership of experienced organisations which have come together in Susan's interest.  The trustees include representatives from the Inland Waterways Association,  The Chelmer Canal Trust, The Chelmer Lighter Preservation Society and Chelmsford Borough Council.

The aims of the Trust are to restore and preserve Susan for the public benefit as the only example of a working wooden lighter purpose built for use on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation and to advance the education of the public in the history of the Navigation by exhibiting and operating Susan.
